Immerse yourself in flavours, nature and traditions
30 kms north of Lucca in North western Tuscany lies the lush green Serchio Valley particularly rich in vegetation, immersed in nature with breathtaking landscapes all year round. Countless villages, we call borghi, perched on the hills, medieval churches, monasteries and fortresses. The higher part of the valley is known as the Garfagnana crossed in its entirety by the Serchio River, offering excellent climbing trails all year round, scenic panoramas and beautiful lakes.
The wild mountains that surround the area, to the east/northeast the Apennines and to the west the Apuan Alps, offer visitors plenty of choices among outdoor activities: hiking, walking and mountain biking, canyoning, rafting and adventure parks.
There are many enchanting and charming medieval villages and towns in the Valley steeped in history, such as Barga and Castelnuovo Garfagnana, Bagni di Lucca and Borgo a Mozzano, Camporgiano and San Romano.
The Serchio Valley is renowned for its typical food products, such as chestnuts, mushrooms, farro (spelt), cheese and cured meats such as prosciutto di bazzone and biroldo. Visit the numerous food festivals all year round in the many villages perched on hill tops celebrating various culinary recipes handed down generation through generation, using fresh local products.
